Researchers also find zebra finches 20% less likely to hatch from eggs if exposed to noise pollution<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div> April 25, 2024 | Source: The Guardian<\/a> | by Sofia Quaglia<\/p>\n<\/div> Noise pollution from traffic stunts growth in baby birds, even while inside the egg, research has found.<\/p>\n Unhatched birds and hatchlings that are exposed to noise from city traffic experience long-term negative effects on their health, growth and reproduction, the study found.<\/p>\n \u201cSound has a much stronger and more direct impact on bird development than we knew before,\u201d said Dr Mylene Mariette, a bird communication expert at Deakin University in Australia and a co-author of\u00a0the study, published in the journal Science<\/a>. \u201cIt would be wise to work more to reduce noise pollution.\u201d<\/p>\n
