Starting this fall, more highly processed foods will be on the menu for children in public schools thanks to a \u201cmajor new initiative\u201d to get Kraft Heinz\u2019s \u201cLunchables\u201d products into U.S. public school cafeterias.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div> March 23, 2023 | Source: The Defender<\/a> | by Suzanne Burdick, Ph.D.<\/p>\n<\/div> Starting this fall, more highly processed foods will be on the menu for children in public schools thanks to a \u201cmajor new initiative<\/a>\u201d to get Kraft Heinz\u2019s \u201cLunchables<\/a>\u201d products into U.S. public school cafeterias.<\/p>\n The company said two versions of the Lunchables product will be\u00a0served in K-12 public schools<\/a>, either for students to buy or free, under the National School Lunch Program.<\/p>\n The company said it developed\u00a0two styles of Lunchables<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 turkey and cheddar or extra cheesy pizza\u2014 that meet the federal nutritional guidelines set for the U.S. Department of Agriculture\u2019s (USDA)\u00a0National School Lunch Program<\/a>, which provides\u00a0meals to nearly 30 million kids<\/a>\u00a0across the country.<\/p>\n Both options were made using \u201ca specialized recipe that incorporates more protein and whole grains to keep kids powered throughout the day, reduced saturated fat and sodium, and an increased serving size,\u201d Kraft Heinz told\u00a0CNN Business<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>
