The 50+ Foods That Represent Every State in the US, According to a New Survey

While you might feel attached to your home state’s signature foods, what does everyone else in the United States think of your regional specialties?

The United States’ cuisine is incredibly diverse, varying wildly depending on who’s cooking it and where they are in the country, and a new survey from Talker Research reveals what consumers think of some of the most iconic foods from all 50 states.

People polled said California offers the best cuisine overall. Respondents from each state were asked to cite the flavors and dishes they believe represent their region, and Californians highlighted Mexican cuisine, burgers, and shrimp tacos as three specific points of pride. Although The Golden State took the top prize, it was closely followed by New York, Texas, Louisiana, and Florida as other popular places for food.

More than 5,000 online respondents participated in the survey, and Talker Research confirms that responses were split evenly by state to help produce unbiased results. In addition to the best states for food and the dishes their state identified with most, participants were also asked about their dining and cooking habits, revealing a few key trends in how people prepare and enjoy food at home.
