ANNOUNCEMENT:
LEARN
MORE ABOUT PROTECTING INDIGENOUS SEEDS FROM GENETIC ENGINEERING
CONTAMINATION

Last week we alerted you to imminent state funding for the
genetic modification of indigenous Chiles. This came despite
last year’s non-binding joint Senate-House Memorial known
as "The Seed Sovereignty Declaration". Representing
the efforts of a historic alliance between the Traditional
Native American Farmers Association and the New Mexico Acequia
Association, the Declaration states "BE IT RESOLVED that
the legislature support the efforts of the New Mexico Food
and Seed Sovereignty Alliance to prevent genetic contamination
of native seeds, strengthen small-scale agriculture and increase
the cultivation of native crops in their communities".
The Declaration was a tremendous first step but we must act
now for comprehensive protection of Northern New Mexico’s
agricultural heritage from genetic engineering. Join us for
presentations and important updates at the 3rd for Annual
Land, Water, and Culture Conference and Seed Exchange."Honoring
our Relationship with Food" Saturday, March 8th, 9:00am-5:00pm
Northern NM College, Española, New Mexico Farmers,
ranchers, herbalists, and healers are especially encouraged
to participate! Contact the New Mexico Acequia Association
