ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) – A Western North Carolina couple received national recognition for their business which is being called a unique and healthy alternative to average grocery shopping.

Andrea and Graham DuVall own Mother Earth Produce which is based out of Asheville.

“We deliver in Upstate South Carolina in Greenville and Spartanburg. So, we have a big, huge network and try to tie-in all communities in between as well,” Graham DuVall said. “We believe so strongly in local, organic food for health reasons.”

He said it all started when he and his wife, Andrea, wanted to connect with local farmers and they wanted to give back to the community.

“And so when we looked online and couldn’t find a home delivery service, we decided to start one,” Graham said.

The delivery service is free and the food comes from North and South Carolina farms. Each food bin for customers, which can be customized starts at $27, but the cost can increase depending on what customers buy and how much they order.

“We actually know the family farms, we know their kids, we know the feed that was given to the chicken that lays your eggs,” Andrea DuVall said.

She is also an owner of Mother Earth Produce and said they work with about 30 farms to deliver fresh, organic food to customer’s doorsteps.

“And every week, I’ll send out an email online to our customers and they can go online and place their order,” she said.

She said their service is different from food CO-OPS, which stand for cooperative societies, businesses or enterprises because customers can customize their bins. Because of their business, the DuValls are getting national recognition for their service.

They were named a top business in the Miller Lite Tap the Future competition and now they have a chance to win
$200,000.

“Out of thousands of applicants, we got chosen to be the top 30 in the nation,” she said.

But, the DuValls said being able to provide this service for the community is priceless.

“To be able to do what we love is such an honor,” she said.
