Potentially millions of acres of public land in Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado are at risk of oil shale development, the ‘dirtiest fossil fuel in the world.’ The federal government estimates that oil shale development in the western states will require up to 10 new coal-fired power plants! What’s more, the massive amounts of water needed to process oil shale will have serious impacts in the already arid west, endangering communities and wildlife. It’s time to move our nation away from dirty fossil fuel dependency.
