Here’s the skinny when it comes to Massachusetts and weight: We’re at the bottom of the list when it comes to America’s fattest states. We also have the lowest number of obese adults in the nation, according to a new WalletHub study.
The study, 2015’s Fattest States in America, analyzed the percentage of overweight and obese adults and children from each state plus the District of Columbia. It also studied unhealthy behaviors such as physical inactivity and the consumption of sugary beverages. Massachusetts came in at a slim 48th place — only New Jersey, Colorado, and Hawaii finished lower.
So where are the fattest states in the land? Mississippi was first, followed by Louisiana and West Virginia.
New England states fared pretty well overall, finishing toward the bottom of the list. The fattest New England state, it turns out, is Maine, which ranked 24th in the study.
