Malawi’s industrial cannabis sector has taken a significant step forward with a high-profile visit from a delegation of the Zambia National Service.
Led by Major General Reuben Mweba, Deputy Commander of the Zambia National Service, the team traveled to Malawi to gain insights into the cultivation and regulation of industrial cannabis in the country.
The delegation’s visit highlights Malawi’s growing recognition in the global industrial cannabis space, according to Fanny Namonde, Marketing and Corporate Communications Manager at the Cannabis Regulatory Authority (CRA).
During their stay, the team toured Nangole Farms in Lilongwe and cooperatives in Kasungu, where they witnessed firsthand the country’s potential for cannabis production.
Malawi’s cannabis industry has been gaining momentum since the Cannabis Act was passed in February 2020, allowing for the cultivation of cannabis for industrial and medicinal purposes.
The Act established the CRA as the regulatory body overseeing the industry, and the authority has since been working to develop regulations and licensing frameworks for growers and processors.
