“We’re not going to save our place on this planet without animals, well managed animals, but we need those … We can document that the systems themselves work, but it becomes this question of, ‘OK, how does it work?’ … In the rangeland work that’s starting to roll out now, we’re starting to point out a few of those ecosystem services that biodiversity provides. In this case, one of those services is dung removal. So, insects and microbial communities are really important breaking that dung down and recycling it and feeding the next generation of plants. The speed of which that happens influences the pests and diseases within the animals, the cattle, as well as how much of the pasture area is fouled by their dung.
