Last Thursday, Civil Eats hosted a virtual salon to unpack the Supreme Court’s hearing of Monsanto v. Durnell, which had taken place earlier in the week. The case centered on whether pesticide giant Bayer should have included a warning label on Roundup, the world’s most widely used weedkiller, and has far-reaching implications for public health, farming, and corporate accountability.
The Speakers:
Lisa Held, Civil Eats’ senior staff reporter and contributing editor; and Nathan Donley, environmental health science director at the Center for Biological Diversity.
The Overview:
On Monday, April 27, Held reported on the hearing from inside the courtroom and also caught the action outside, where protesters, many of them Make American Healthy Again (MAHA) supporters, had gathered in front of the building. For the salon, Held invited Donley to join her in discussing the events of that day, the years of lawsuits leading up to the case, what the Supreme Court’s decision will mean, and how it might impact the midterm elections.
