Cases of excessive hair growth in babies across Europe were linked to their parents’ use of minoxidil.
A total of 11 cases of “werewolf syndrome” have been identified in babies across Europe due to exposure to a hair-loss medication used by their parents, according to a new report.
Hypertrichosis, commonly referred to as “werewolf syndrome,” is a rare condition characterised by the abnormal growth of excessive hair in areas other than the scalp. This hair growth, according to the US National Institute of Health (NIH), may cover the entire face and body or appear in smaller, localised patches.
The report, which was conducted by the Pharmacovigilance Centre of Navarre (CFN) in Spain, found that a number of babies affected by this syndrome had a parent who was using a treatment containing minoxidil to treat baldness.
