TRENTON — Lawrence Township citizens have again been defeated in their bid to keep megastore Wal-Mart off a former car dealership site on Spruce Street. The Mercer County Planning Board on Thursday night voted to approve Wal-Mart’s application, saying that environmental and traffic concerns voiced by residents were outside the regulatory body’s purview.
Homeowners from the Tiffany Woods development have been especially vocal, saying an already difficult left turn out of their neighborhood would become nearly impossible with the increased volume of incoming shoppers on the road. Planning Board Chairman John Cimino noted those circumstances as he “reluctantly” voted to approve the site plan.
“In some way, without meaning to do it, we are hurting their quality of life,” Cimino said of Tiffany Woods residents.
