For Greg Kearns, a naturalist at Patuxent River Park, standing knee-deep in a marsh releasing 6,000 beetles into the wetlands, is helping researchers develop techniques to eliminate invasive plant growth.
He’s also having a lot of fun doing it.
From an early age, the Clinton native knew he would be happiest working outdoors. A pheasant-hunting trip with his father left a very strong impression on Kearns.
“When I was out in the field I can remember saying ‘I enjoy being out here, and I would like to do something to give back to nature,'” Kearns said.
