Apocalyptic Scenes Unfold As Rare Dust Storm Reaches Minnesota

You expect dust storms in the Sahara Desert or Arizona, but in Minnesota? Not usually. That's what developed Thursday afternoon and evening across Montana, North Dakota, and into northwest Minnesota.

The dust plume was clearly visible on satellite imagery from space late Thursday:

Some of the scenes in North Dakota were apocalyptic. For example, the winds were ferocious enough to create what Dan Nelson described as a "[topsoil] blizzard mixed with dry fertilizer and mixed wheat seed."
