PUEBLA, Pue.– Although Mexico’s defeat is imminent in the controversy panel that the United States promoted to free the importation of transgenic corn, the prohibition of commercial planting of this type of seeds in our country prevails thanks to the class action lawsuit that, for 11 years, was presented by 53 citizens and 22 civil organizations.

David Rivero Fragoso, legal representative of the class action, warns: if the arbitration panel is going to be lost, it is because the Mexican government failed to comply with the procedures established by the treaty between Mexico, the United States and Canada (T-MEC) by issuing the decree of December 31, 2020 (replaced on February 13, 2021) signed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, as it failed to notify its counterparts and give them the opportunity to comment on the matter.
