WASHINGTON — The U.S. Supreme Court has denied the Iowa Pork Producers Association’s petition to appeal a case challenging Proposition 12.

Prop 12 is a California law that requires pork sold in that state to come from farms where sows are given a certain amount of space. More than 20 states joined the Pork Producers Association in its petition after an appeals court upheld the law.

They argued the space requirements lack any scientific support and would harm farmers, retailers, and customers.

Back in 2023, the U.S. Supreme Court backed the California law in a separate case.
